While we're all still recovering from the Season 2 finale of the White Lotus, more insights into how well its cast think on their feet have been made. Though it's already known that Aubrey Plaza's ad-lib about not watching Ted Lasso was her own last-minute addition, it turns out one of the best comedic moments of the whole season was also improvised.
In an interview with Access Hollywood, Sabrina Impacciatore — the actor who plays nitpicky hotel manager Valentina — revealed that calling Jennifer Coolidge's character Tanya "Peppa Pig" was not only improvisation, but she wasn't even sure if the moment had made it onto the show at all.
"You know what happened? I'm so glad it's on the show. Allora — because Mike [White] said 'Hey guys, you can improvise if you want in this scene,'" she explained. "It was like, my third day of shooting, and I was so intimidated by Jennifer, because to me she is a goddess. She's a genius. And me, I was just, I just wanted to lay down and worship her, you know?"
She continued:
So, I improvised, and I said "Peppa Pig," and you know what happened? She could not stop laughing. Like, she exploded in this laughter. And me, I thought "Oh my god, what's going to happen?" … And then John [Gries] was laughing, like, everybody was laughing, and then they had to cut. I mean, we went on with the scene, but then I was wondering: Are they going to put this in the scene? Because she didn't know this Peppa Pig.
For those who have yet to see the scene in question (and don't worry, we won't spoil anything for you), when Tanya shows up in an extravagant pink outfit inspired by Monica Vitti, she asks Valentina who she looks like, obviously not expecting "Peppa Pig" in response.
Whatever Tanya was meant to look like at that moment, it clearly hasn't hurt Coolidge's dating life. Watch the clip from Impacciatore's interview below.
