Kenny Beats has shared news of his debut solo album. Before the month is out, the in-demand producer will deliver LOUIE on August 31 via XL Recordings.

The 17-song LOUIE was created in tribute to the artist's father, and is said to be almost entirely instrumental. While in the UK working with IDLES on what would become their fourth album Crawler, Kenny learned that his parent had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

It was then that he began listening to mixtapes made by his father for friends and family. A press release continues, "When news of his father's illness hit Kenny, he found himself constantly returning to these tapes to process his grief and feel familial connectivity in a remote locale. The mixes didn't merely offer reassuring anthems, they transported him back to times that felt simpler–before the turbulence of the last two decades took its toll."

"I always said that I wouldn't do a solo album because I didn't have anything to say. Finally, I did," Kenny shared in a statement. "Something dark turned into something beautiful. This album encapsulated the feeling of that one month."

Kenny Beats began his career with production placements on albums by Smoke DZA before gaining greater prominence as one half of EDM duo Loudpvck. He has since gone on to produce for 2022 Exclaim! cover star Denzel CurryVince Staples, Rico Nasty, Freddie Gibbs, KEY! and many more.
