Jon Batiste has left The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, having served as bandleader since the show's inception in 2015.
Louis Cato, who has served as interim bandleader while Batiste has been absent this summer, will now take over the role full-time. The ensemble are simply called Louis Cato and the Late Show Band.
"We've been so lucky to have a front row seat to Jon's incredible talent for the past seven years," Colbert said on the show. "And will we miss him here? Yeahhh! But we're happy for you, Jon, and I can't wait to have you back on as guest with your next hit record."
Batiste has enjoyed considerable solo success in the last couple years. He co-scored Pixar's film Soul, for which he earned an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Original Score. Earlier this year, he won the Grammy for Album of the Year for We Are.
