Jennifer Castle Returns with New Album 'Camelot,' Shares "Lucky #8"

It's the Toronto singer-songwriter's first LP since 2020's 'Monarch Season'

Earlier this summer, Toronto singer-songwriter Jennifer Castle released "Blowing Kisses" — her first new song in over three years, which was featured in Season 3 of The Bear. Now she's back with the announcement of a full album, further previewed today by new single "Lucky #8."

Camelot arrives November 1 through Solstice Radio / Paradise of Bachelors. The follow-up to 2020's Monarch Season and Castle's seventh studio record, it was co-produced by her longtime collaborator Jeff McMurrich (who plays lead guitar across the LP) and features additional slide guitar from Cass McCombs. Press materials describe Camelot as an "extraordinary, moving 2024 chronicle of the artist in early middle age."

Castle described jaunty new single "Lucky #8," as "sort of having that energetic vibe to it, where it attempts a stunt lyrically (in my mind) to absorb all the possibilities of life into one moment and to be okay with that complexity, instead of fracturing off into myriad neurotic narratives."

The song arrives alongside a music video compiling historic gymnastics performances that were a formative part of the artist's childhood. "Questing through the smudged screen to where the inexhaustible competition for greatness twirls," she added of the clip. "The body is a noble sword, bandaged. But did they win? Sometimes even now that adrenaline takes flight within me. But can I win? And win at what? Lay it on its side, sweet angel. Infinity is victory."
