Lady Gaga has shared a sweeping, melodramatic new song called "Hold My Hand," written for Tom Cruise's upcoming Top Gun: Maverick. (Are people still aware that this movie exists? Yes? Okay.)
The song is Gaga's first film-soundtrack song since the absolute blockbuster smash that was "Shallow," so the bar is pretty high! You'll have to judge for yourself whether it hits the same heights of silver screen schmaltz as its predecessor. The single was produced by Gaga and BloodPop®, with some additional production from Benjamin Rice.
Gaga started teasing the song last week, sharing the artwork and writing that she'd "been working on it for years, perfecting it, trying to make it ours." The song has Gaga in massive '80s power-ballad mode, so if that's how you like your Germanotta, this one's for you.
Top Gun: Maverick is the sequel to 1986's Top Gun. It arrives in theatres May 27. Check out "Hold My Hand" below.
