Guitar Wolf

Golden Black

For close to 20 years, Guitar Wolf have been playing ferocious rock’n’roll that thrashes the living daylights out of stereo speakers. As an anthology, Golden Black supplies a strong overview of the band’s work, with songs chosen for it by fans through an online poll. On tracks such as "Wild Zero” and "Sky Star Jet,” the disc shows Guitar Wolf’s mean ability to make amplifiers roar. While Golden Black’s 26 songs provide an abundance of material, some of which is out of print, the compilation unfortunately lacks any liner notes that might shed light on the Japanese group. Despite that shortcoming, Golden Black offers a solid musical sense of one of garage rock’s more unruly bands.
