Sci-fi pop futurist Grimes has released her latest single, "Shinigami Eyes."
According to a press release, the new song will be appearing on an EP called Fairies Cum First, which is billed as a "prelude" to her forthcoming full-length Book 1.
Similar to recent work like "Player of Games" and her project NPC, "Shinigami Eyes" is a futuristic electro banger. Amidst blippy arpeggiators and straightforward club thump, she sings threatening lines like "Are you ready to die?" and "Everything is fine."
In the wild accompanying video, Grimes dons elf ears for a chaotic blend of light sabre battles, choreographed dance routines and neon CGI. With its free-association mishmash of sci-fi stuff, it looks a bit like someone put the term "futuristic" through an AI video generator and this is what it spat out. It was directed by BRTHR.
