Sudan-born, Edmonton-based rapper Mouraine has announced his debut album, previewed by lead single "Gold."
In Search of Gold arrives on May 5 via Birthday Cake. It follows the artist's 2021 EP Bigger Dreams and 2017 mixtape Cold Mornings 2.
According to press materials, the 13-track collection reveals the full breadth of Mouraine's personality — from self-doubt ("FOMO") to frustration ("Planet of the Apes"), and all the other dark parts of his artistic journey. Seeking asylum from his home country with his mother and siblings at the age of 10, he came to Canada unable to speak English. He ended up learning from — and finding solace in — watching hip-hop videos and poetry.
"The song 'Gold' is the perfect post-reaction once you discover your true worth as an artist and a human being," Mouraine said of the swagger-laden, Gretzky-referencing lead single in a statement. "Once you know your capabilities and have reached an unexplainable state of belief in yourself, there is no such thing as settling for anything less than gold."
