Exclaim!'s Staff Picks: JRDN Sounds Confident and Conversational on "Call My Name"

BY Ben OkazawaPublished Jun 15, 2023

Don't call it a comeback! People might see this and think to themselves that JRDN is back, but the truth is, the Toronto-based R&B crooner never left. He's been steadily putting out records over the past decade, and although it might lack the earworm contagion that made "U Can Have It All" and "Like Magic" CanCon radio hits back in 2010, his matured vocals and willingness to experiment made 2021 album Ralph some of his best work to date.

His latest single "Call My Name" should appeal to fans of both JRDN eras, bridging the gap between his classics and newer hits. The track lays the confident, rich falsetto that he's been showing off more recently atop the conversational melody and high hat and 808-heavy production reminiscent of his early music.
