Drake took to Instagram yesterday (September 14) to mourn the loss of his friend and OVO affiliate Anthony "Fif" Soares.
The 33-year-old was gunned down at 3 a.m. EDT yesterday at a Scarborough high-rise near Kennedy Road and Highway 401 in Toronto's east end.
Toronto police reported that the victim exited a car and entered the residential building, where he was approached by two suspects armed with handguns. Soares was shot multiple times at close range and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Police are encouraging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Find details about contacting the Toronto Police Service here.
UPDATE (9/20, 12 p.m. EDT): Toronto police have now released security camera footage of Anthony Soares' shooting in hopes can help detectives identify the two suspects involved in the fatal incident. Police hope that by releasing the footage witnesses will come forward. You can watch the graphic footage over here.
Drake paid homage to his late comrade with a post on Instagram, saying, "I still can't even believe this morning was real."
Drake previously referenced Fif on the More Life cut "No Long Talk." Fif also appeared in Drake's video unveiling the OVO flagship store at Yorkdale Mall earlier this year.
The late OVO affiliate's own Instagram has since been met with a flood of condolences. See some of those comments in his final post below.
