Dana Sipos delivered her most recent studio album Roll Up the Night Sky back in 2015, and the Canadian singer-songwriter is ready to follow that up with a new track called "Sleeping Buffalo."
The song hears Sipos testing out a new creative partnership, teaming up with New Brunswick's Owen Steel. They co-wrote the song together — an experience Sipos says was "something quite new and a bit terrifying for us both" — while attending a songwriter residency at the Banff Centre back in March.
The tune was inspired by the "majestic" view of Sleeping Buffalo Mountain outside the studio window and recorded using Steel's old tape machine. It features Sipos on vocals, Steel playing a Steinway piano andvibraphone, plus another of their fellow resident musicians, Lisa Crawley, on backing vocals. The track was mixed by Christopher Braun and mastered by Jake Nicoll, while the accompanying single artwork (pictured above) is by Nicole Kagan.
