Courtney Love Says Hole Will "Absolutely Not" Reunite

Instead she's doing a cover series and taken on "California Stars" by Billy Bragg and Wilco

Courtney Love has been teasing a reunion of her beloved band Hole for years, but it turns out Hole will not be made whole. In a new interview, she said that the reunion is not happening.

In a new interview with Vogue, Love bluntly said that a Hole reunion was "absolutely not" going to happen.

"And you guys have gotta get over it," she continued. "Our old manager Peter Mensch calls once a year to ask about a reunion: 'Hey, just doing my thing I do every year with you and Jimmy Page [of Led Zeppelin].' And I'm so honoured to be in that company, but it's just not gonna happen."

Fortunately, it's not bad blood keeping the band members apart but instead pure busyness.

"We're all really good friends and Melissa and I are especially close — we talk every day," she continued. "But Eric is kinda off-the-grid right now — I think he's in Japan literally becoming a monk. I'm not even kidding. Melissa, Patty, and I think he's become a monk or something on that level of aestheticism."

Love was last spotted jamming with a classic Hole lineup back in 2019, sparking all sorts of hopes and rumours.

Instead of reuniting Hole, Love will be doing a new cover series, which she's calling Bruises of Roses. The project started after Love began working with Big Moon's Juliette Jackson, and to launch the series, Love and Jackson have shared their version of "California Stars."

The song comes from a Woody Guthrie-penned poem that was later set to music by Billy Bragg and Wilco on their 1998 album Mermaid Avenue.

"It's just such a charming, rollicking little song," Love said. "I'm a fourth-generation Californian, and every time I hear it it reminds me of places like Will Rogers State Park and the Great Bluffs above Salinas. I'm a California girl and I will never not be a California girl so there's so much in that song for me."
