Maybe it was the Vans-branded skate ramp at Yonge & Dundas Square, maybe it was the sunshine, or maybe it was the audience's excitement for the first official day of summer, but the conditions were ideal for Casey Veggies' Sunday (June 21) late afternoon show.

The 21-year-old Inglewood, California rapper — perhaps best known for his affiliation with Los Angeles collective Odd Future or his collaborations with Freddie Gibbs, Kendrick Lamar and more — provided an upbeat soundtrack to the block party. His hook on Earl Sweatshirt's 2013 song "Hive" proved he's at home rhyming over a menacing beat, but his set focussed on more ebullient material from his deep mixtape catalogue ("Backflip" was a highlight).

Telling the crowd about how he was only 18 years old the first time he played in Toronto, it's clear that he's matured as an artist, and his forthcoming debut album, Live & Grow, ("Coming out in a few months") should only confirm his talent.
