Celebrated as a rapper, producer and former poet laureate, Cadence Weapon will soon add author to that list with the announcement of a new book.
Today, the Toronto-based artist lifted the curtain on Bedroom Rapper, set to be published in 2022. Arriving through McClelland & Stewart, the book will see Rollie Pemberton write about "his life in music as a rapper, producer, critic and fan, as the digital era has changed and continues to change the industry."
To this point, Pemberton's recording career as Cadence Weapon has yielded four studio albums, three mixtapes and work with Jacques Greene, Kaytranada, DJ Shub, Grandtheft, Deradoorian, Blue Hawaii, Casey MQ, Buck 65 and more. Earlier this year, he rereleased much of his early material as part of bringing his catalogue to Bandcamp.
Outside of the studio, Pemberton wrote record reviews for Pitchfork, Stylus and Wired, and served as poet laureate for the city of Edmonton for two years beginning in 2009. He had previously published Magnetic Days, a collection of poems that arrived in 2014.
Pemberton's most recent album as Cadence Weapon remains 2018's self-titled effort, which he broke down track-by-track for Exclaim! upon its release.
