While debuting its opening track "Black Hole" live in Boston last night, recent Exclaim! cover stars boygenius announced the forthcoming release of a new four-track EP.
the rest arrives on October 13 via Interscope Records. It follows the supergroup of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus's major-label debut and first full-length as a trio, the record, which we named one of the best of 2023 so far earlier this year.
The boys co-produced the rest with Tony Berg, Jake Finch, Ethan Gruska, Calvin Lauber, Collin Pastore and Marshall Vore. Aside from "Black Hole," the rest of the song titles have only been revealed in asterisks, which there will certainly be no frenzied attempts to decode. Speaking of, it seems like "Boyfriend" — the new song they performed live at a bunch of shows on their tour, including at Toronto's Budweiser Stage back in June — isn't included. But I might just be bad at math!
Although they followed it by posting the announcement on social media, the audience at Boston's MGM Music Hall got the exclusive tip about the EP — and enjoyed being the first to hear opener "Black Hole," which you can watch fan-shot video footage of below. Baker, Bridgers and Dacus were also joined by everyone's favourite woodland creature, Hozier, for "Salt in the Wound." He then got to exit the stage with them to a Papa Roach song.
the rest:
