A couple of years back, we criticized metalcore combo August Burns Red for treading water artistically, but now they are pushing ahead with a new album called Found in Far Away Places. Before that arrives on June 30 through Fearless Records, the band have shared a lyric video for "The Wake."
The song is a punishing assault of jackhammer kick, larynx-abusing growls, and fiery fretwork that ranges from low-end fuzz to squealing leads. While all this is going on, we see an assortment of abstract patterns and cryptic, ambiguously political slogans flash up on the screen.
"We wanted to start the record with a bang and this song is a real kick in the mouth," guitarist JB Brubaker told Billboard. "It's fast and heavy while discussing how our planet is being destroyed by the gross misuse of our resources, and the general apathy of the human race when it comes to caring for the Earth."
