We're living in a time of strife stretching unimaginable vastness, so we definitely deserve the respite that only a Shrexy cast of ogres, donkeys, cats, dragons, etc. can provide. Thankfully, the beautiful mind of Ben Trigger — Shreklesque creator, director and starring Shrek — bravely dared to dream big enough to burlesque-ify the 2001 Dreamworks film.
And in an age when samaritan TikTok users will spam anti-abortion websites with Shrek memes and porn, Shreklesque just feels right. As incisively noted by the A.V. Club, that's all they possibly could have titled it. Sexy Pinocchio, sexy Magic Mirror, sexy Gingerbread Man that pours milk all over himself — the gang's all here, with nipple tassels on. (That's a nice boulder.)
The show's first performances took place in 2020 and continued last year. Following inevitable continued success, they're now set to expand with a tour throughout New Zealand and Australia this summer — and eventually, our swamp. Hopefully, anyway.
