Watch Kamasi Washington Cover Metallica's "My Friend of Misery"

Kamasi Washington is one of the many contributors to the forthcoming Metallica Blacklist, a massive 53-track covers collection arriving later this year in celebration of Metallica's Black Album, and he used a recent live performance to unveil his rendition of "My Friend of Misery."

Last night (July 18), Washington brought Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo to the stage to perform the cover alongside his band. You can hear his take on the Black Album cut via some fan-shot footage below.

Washington's show also featured guest appearances from Thundercat and his Dinner Party bandmate Terrace Martin, the latter of whom took the stage with MCs G Perico and Daylyt to perform "Pig Feet," which you can also view below.

Washington will appear on The Metallica Blacklist with WeezerPUPMac DeMarcoKamasi WashingtonFlatbush ZombiesPhoebe Bridgers and more. In June, he shared new song "Sun Kissed Child."

The Metallica Blacklist is out digitally on September 10, while 4-CD and 7-LP versions will arrive on October 1 through Blackened Recordings.

Washington's most recent album remains Heaven and Earth, which landed among Exclaim!'s Top 10 Experimental & Modern Composition Albums of 2018.
