Violent Femmes have been on the reunion circuit in recent years, playing endless versions of "Blister in the Sun," but now they finally have some new material to perform, since they just released their Happy New Year EP on Record Store Day (April 18).
The four songs were recorded on New Year's Eve in Hobart, Tasmania. The collection kicks off with the sprightly 12-bar ditty "Happy New Year Next Year." From there, "Love Love Love Love Love" injects a Latin flavour into the proceedings, "Good At / For Nothing" is a freewheeling party tune, and "Fast Horses" rounds things out with mellow, country-tinged vibes. The arrangements channel Violent Femmes' usual acoustic punk sound with an injection of horns.
Hear it all below. It's out on 12-inch vinyl through Add It Up Productions.
