This week, the National began sending out teasers to fans, suggesting that something would be announced today, on Friday the 13th. Now that the big day has arrived, and while the band still haven't confirmed the details of a new album, they have shared a teaser of new music.

On social media, the National posted a short video containing sombre piano music and featuring singer Matt Berninger reading Mary Shelly's Frankenstein.

The post contains a link to an "LP9" page on their website. Using the passwords "EVIL FOREBODINGS" or "TRANQUILIZE THE MIND" — phrases mailed to fans this week — fans will then be treated to short clips of what sound like a couple of new songs from the National.

There's also an image of two pages from an open book. The text appears to come from Frankenstein, although with some of the words tweaked. The letter to "Mrs. Saville" has been changed to "Mrs. Bridgers," for example. The word "Sufjan" is also in there.

Check out the teaser below, and stay tuned for more news about LP9 from the National.
