Back in June, the Breeders announced Last Splash (30th Anniversary Original Analog Edition), a new edition of their seminal 1993 sophomore record Last Splash that was remastered from the previously thought-to-be-lost analog tapes. Two unreleased tracks were also discovered — the previously shared Black Francis co-write "Go Man Go" — and today we get to hear "Divine Mascis."

As the title might suggest, "Divine Mascis" is an alternate version of "One Divine Hammer" that features vocals from J Mascis. The song comes attached to a video of Mascis chillin' on a couch as he sings the song. As Kelley Deal explained in an interview with Uncut, Mascis's version was even a surprise to the band:

At the time, J Mascis was a guitar god… we sent him the tape to put guitar on, so when it came back and he's got rid of our voices and just put his vocal on, we were like, 'Wha?!'" But it's really cute. There's a freshness to it, and it's just so weird. I like his voice and the idiosyncratic way he sings and delivers lines. So I thought it was really neat.

The Breeders are currently on the road to celebrate 30 years of Last Splash (though they're not coming to Canada), and that tour includes two 2024 shows with Olivia Rodrigo in Los Angeles.
