Long-running Brooklyn duo the Antlers reemerged earlier this year to produce their first new album in seven years, Green to Gold. Now, the pair have shared a collection of electronic reimagining of the record in the form of an EP titled Losing Light, which you can hear below.
Described as an "exercise in imagining the future of music and technology," Peter Silberman and Michael Lerner have delivered four new songs through Losing Light.
"How would these songs sound if they were being reconstituted from memory fifty years from now, after decades of technological evolution, alongside analog and digital degradation?" Silberman said of the project in a statement. "I began to consider how we reconstruct the past once we're many years removed from it, with only scattered, decaying artifacts to reference."
He continued:
Following this premise of Green to Gold as if remembered from the distant future, we began to reassemble pieces of several songs in different iterations — the earliest versions and demos, pieces of the album versions, and newly-created recordings. To bring them all into the same world, we processed each of these elements in ways that would repeatedly age them backwards and forwards, as if being blasted into the past, then flung into the future.
The duo will bring their newest batch of tunes on the road in early 2022, beginning with a show in Berlin on March 25. They've also mapped out Toronto and Montreal performances toward the end of the run, on June 3 at the Great Hall and on June 4 at L'Astral, respectively.
Tickets for the trek go on sale tomorrow (November 17) at 10 a.m. local time.
