British Columbia producer Jamison Isaak has detailed a new album as Teen Daze. The artist will share Interior — his tenth full-length under the moniker — on December 10 via Cascine, marking his first for the label.
Mixed by Joel Ford and mastered by Dave Cooley, Interior is said to be Isaak's "love letter to his own artistic awakening"; an electronic exploration of "skylines, escape, and sensual energy" that amounts to music "Like what the teenagers in Akira might be listening to."
Joining Isaak on the record are fellow Canadians Joseph Shabason and Cecile Believe. First single "Swimming" arrives today alongside a video directed by Nicole Ginelli, which you can take in below, created using VR and real-time motion capture.
As Isaak explains in a press release, "Swimming" was one of the first tracks composed for Interior, and was pointed towards the dancefloor by collaborator Ford.
"When I first sent [Joel] the original demos he said he could hear slivers of 'early 2000s French house music,' even though I was hearing was colder, more modular-based synth sounds," Isaak shares. "Anyways, that note sent me down a rabbit hole which resulted in the record you're hearing today, and 'Swimming' is one of the songs that benefitted most from that note ... I've spent a lot of the last few years trying to craft 'ambient music that you could dance to,' but this one is about as close as I get to a DJ tool."
Of how "Swimming" informed her colourful visuals, director Ginelli adds, "For me, the song is a celebration of dancing together again and the anticipation of those moments. It feels like being in your brain and excited about something forthcoming, an active dreaming forward. Using an abstract avatar of myself, my movements and dances trigger reactive animations and cue the interactive space around me."
Interior follows Teen Daze's 2019 full-length Bioluminescence. In November, Isaak will play an album release show at Vancouver's Paradise nightclub on November 12. Find his 2021 tour dates below.
