The Raveonettes

Lust, Lust, Lust

BY Rob NayPublished Feb 26, 2008

The latest record from the Denmark duo shows Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo playing at the top of their game for much of the disc. Its opening handful of songs rank amongst the Raveonettes’ most rewarding material, stirring together sharp edges and smooth caresses. From the hypnotic nod of "Aly, Walk with Me” and "Lust” to the saccharine but sinister feedback blasts of "Hallucinations” and "Dead Sound,” the record imparts engagingly dark pop. Plush vocals float overtop cascades of noise. After being unveiled months ago in Europe, Lust, Lust, Lust final sees the light of day in North America, thanks to the band’s new home on Vice Records. Despite the delay, many of the songs here were debuted to Canadian audiences last fall during the group’s tour. While some of its lustre wears off on the last third of the record, Lust, Lust, Lust generally shines brightly.
