The Grammy- and Oscar-winning musician has shared the short, sweet "Stay Away," which you can watch him perform below, seated at his piano alongside a soundly sleeping dog.
Newman wrote the social distancing ditty upon request from Los Angeles radio station KPCC, drily joking that it was due to his "scientific background," as there's "apparently some disease going around."
Newman sings to a "Venus in sweatpants," promising better days ahead while reminding, "Be kind to one another / Tell her you love her every day / If you're angry about something, let it go If the kids are frightened, tell them not to be afraid / But don't let them touch your face."
Newman last released his Dark Matter album in 2017, marking his first full-length effort in nearly a decade. He recently received 2020 Oscar nominations for both Best Original Score and Best Original Song.
