Protest the Hero are set to release new album Palimpsest this week, and the band have now announced plans to deliver the effort a day early.
Today, the band announced that their first album in four years will now arrive Thursday (June 18), in respect and honour of Juneteenth. The American holiday is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.
"Many months ago, when we set the date of our record release, we decided on the date of June 19. When we realized our scheduled release day coincides with Juneteenth, we didn't feel right about celebrating our album when we should be observing the holiday," the band wrote in a joint statement, which can be found below.
"Recently we have been doing our best to look inward and acknowledge our prejudice and privilege. In doing so, we must recognize the importance of Juneteenth, and we don't want to detract from it in any way. Palimpsest will now be released on Thursday, June 18."
Palimpsest marks Protest the Hero's first studio full-length since 2013's Volition. The band have previewed the release with singles "From the Sky" and "The Canary."
Palimpsest is now available for pre-order.
