This past week, Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez went viral when an old dance video from her university years was uncovered. The clip, which appears to have been released as an attempted right-wing smear campaign, shows her doing dance moves from The Breakfast Club to the tune of Phoenix's "Lisztomania." Now, both Phoenix and Breakfast Club star Molly Ringwald have responded to the clip.
The video was made at Boston University in 2010. It's been online for years, but it's only since Ocasio-Cortez got elected in the midterms that it has gotten any attention.
Despite the clip being circulated in an apparent attempt to discredit Ocasio-Cortez, it has been widely embraced. Both Phoenix and Ringwald issued their own tweets of support, which can be seen below:
In response to Phoenix's tweet, Ocasio-Cortez wrote "Merci beaucoup!"
