Northcote is the moniker of Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist Matthew Goud. His rich and raspy vocals have been compared to the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Joe Cocker, although to many, his voice will always evoke Means, the post-hardcore crew that he once performed in.
Moving forward independently, Goud has released three studio albums and performed extensively throughout North America and Europe; even now, he's in the midst of a tour that will last all winter. We invited him in for a rest from his travels, and in return he gave us a performance for Exclaim! TV.
The episode below features Northcote performing "Bitter End" from his latest record, Hope Is Made of Steel. With nothing but an acoustic guitar and that voice, Goud carries the tune to a powerful climax.
