Nick Lowe Announces Holiday Album, Streams Entire Record Online

In what is surely one of the most seasonally inappropriate roll-outs of a Christmas album ever, journeyman songwriter Nick Lowe has announced that he will be releasing a holiday album later this year. In the meantime, he's shared the entire thing as a limited-time stream.

The album is called Quality Street: A Seasonal Selection for All the Family, and it's due out October 29 via Yep Roc. A press release describes it as "a twinkling blend of traditional hymns, forgotten gems and Lowe originals." It includes a new tune from Ron Sexsmith called "Hooves on the Roof," which was reportedly written just for this project.

In a statement, Lowe said that the album is "a sleigh bell-free zone." Instead, the album's diverse influences include snatches of jazz, calypso, rockabilly, folk, and bossanova. He mostly avoids the usual Christmas carols, but he turns "Silent Night" into an upbeat, horn-filled ditty.

Quality Street is available to pre-order here on CD or LP. It's also available in a deluxe bundle that includes a snow globe, greeting cards and wrapping paper.

Scroll past the tracklist to stream the album. It will only be available until 10 a.m. EDT tomorrow (July 26).
