C'mon, Twitter is so fun these days!

Neil Young isn't on Spotify anymore, nor is he personally on any social media. Apparently it's going to stay that way, since Young has said that social media "scares the shit out of me."

Appearing on Zane Lowe's Apple Music 1 show with producer Rick Rubin, Young said that he prefers to stay out of the gossip and celebrity feuds that tend to run rampant on social media (particularly lately, thanks to Elon Musk's contentious takeover of Twitter).

Young said:

It scares the shit out of me. I don't like to go to social media. I don't like to get involved in that and the back and forth of one celebrity against another celebrity to do as a certain kind of people. I mean, who cares? There's so many more important things than that to think about today if you really want to look at what's happening. Again, even as I'm saying that, I can feel like, whoa, you've said that so many times already. People know that, but people don't really know it well enough to act on it. I keep going back to the same old thing and it's going to be the death of me pretty soon. I probably have to stop doing that … Fuck them if they can't take a joke.

Neil Young actually does have an official Twitter account (@NeilYoungNYA) and an Instagram page (@neilyoungarchives), although the man himself isn't personally involved with them. He also has a Facebook page run by Reprise Records.

Neil Young's Harvest Time documentary will be screened on December 1, and his Crazy Horse album World Record is out this Friday (November 18).
