Vancouver post-hardcore combo Needs released their debut EP The Accursed Share via Bart Records last year. Now, they're already planning to follow it up with a sophomore set.

New 7-inch Rare Earths offers up three brand new songs from the band along with a new version of the title track from their previous release. In a statement to Exclaim!, frontman Sean Orr explains that the lyrics delve into tops like "returning home from Sled Island during a massive flood, the occupation of Palestine (in which Noam Chomsky himself approved a sample), the economy, and love."

The EP also marks a new lineup for the band. In addition to Orr, founding bassist Glenn Alderson and guitarist Derek Adam (You Say Party), the group's rounded out by new recruits Colin Spensely and Devin O'Rourke, both of the band Eek!

Rare Earths was recorded at the Noise Floor and will be released via the band's own Snakehead Records. Check out the full EP below along with their bonus track, a cover of Michael Yonkers' "Kill the Enemy."

Needs also have a slew of live dates coming up, including a record release show at Vancouver's Zoo Zhop on May 29, an appearance at Alberta's Ghost Throats Festival (hitting Edmonton on June 1 and Calgary on June 2), and a slot at this year's Sled Island. For more information, go here.
