Metric

"The Shade" (video)

From breathtaking jellyfish journeys to police violence and mounds of man-made garbage, Metric are taking a look at what the world has to offer in the new video for their latest Pagans in Vegas single, "The Shade." You take the good with the bad, though, as Emily Haines sums up with the chorus' determined "I want it all."

The band's latest electro-pop anthem is surging with synth lines and a hard, live drum groove. Above this, Haines notes of the many layers of modern life, "we got the sunshine, we got the shade/ I want it all." Juxtaposed within is the sight of a sweet kitten on a TV screen, surrounded by miles of junk.

Elsewhere, Haines enjoys a rooftop bath, bassist Joshua Winstead raises the roof with a skeli-friend, and drummer Joules Scott-Key reveals he's got a smashing party trick up his sleeve. Guitarist James Shaw takes a stand against the pop world, it seems, as he holds up a flaming copy of a Billboard-mocking magazine called Bored.

Pagans in Vegas, meanwhile, hits stores September 18 via MMI/Universal.
