Lizzo has clarified the rumours surrounding that lyric about Drake in her Cardi B-assisted single "Rumors."
In one of the verses of the track, which arrived last Thursday (August 13), the pop star raps: "Last year, I thought I would lose it / Readin' shit on the internеt / My smoothie cleanse and my diet / No, I ain't fuck Drake yet (Ha)."
When asked about the Drake reference in an interview with Zane Lowe, she said: "You know what I haven't manifested yet? Fucking Drake."
She elaborated: "I just thought it would be so funny to say. I have a small relationship with him. He's very cool. I just feel like women... there's so many times where girls' names get dropped in songs because they're fine."
Following the release of "Rumors" last week, Lizzo confronted some of the hate that's been directed her way over Instagram Live on Sunday (August 15), and got emotional about how the song has been received.
"People who have something mean to say about you, and for the most part it doesn't hurt my feelings, I don't care," she said. "I just think when I'm working this hard, my tolerance gets lower, my patience is lower. I'm more sensitive, and it gets to me."
Cardi B came to her collaborator's defence, tweeting, "When you stand up for yourself they claim your [sic] problematic & sensitive. When you don't they tear you apart until you crying like this."
