Onetime RENDERS leader Kelly McMichael is now releasing music under her own name, and the St. John's singer-songwriter has shared a new single and confirmed the details of her debut album.

The full-length is called Waves, and it was co-produced by McMichael along with Jake Nicoll. Unlike the electronic leanings of RENDERS, the new album focuses on classic pop-rock influences.

You can hear that new sound in the new single "Stepping Stone," which has tremolo tones, breezy country rock keyboard strut and wistful harmonies. McMichael explained in a statement:

My new single, "Stepping Stone," questions how the pursuit of success in the music industry can impact the nature of a relationship. I'm reaching out for understanding while sifting through themes of ambition, loyalty and jealousy.

I brought together '60s and '70s classic rock influences with a touch of R&B on this song's production, which I collaborated on with engineer and drummer, Jake Nicoll. The song's demo featured country guitar, groovy piano and bass, as well as sounds leaning towards smooth LA rock. The band was brilliant at weaving these sensibilities together, particularly with Maria Peddle's layers of soaring strings, and we packaged it all in dreamy production.

Hear the song below. Waves is out on May 20.
