Alternative outfit L7's second phase has included a round of reunion dates, and now their long-in-the-works documentary will finally be hitting movie screens. Following years of production, L7: Pretend We're Dead will be given select screenings later this fall.
As previously reported, the film has been in the works for a few years now and had initially been teased as arriving in 2013. Now, a press release confirms that documentary filmmaker Sarah Price (American Movie, The Yes Men, Summercamp) will be premiering her film on the "fierce, feminist pioneers of American grunge punk" quite soon. That said, info on the screenings is pending.
L7: Pretend We're Dead, named after the band's memorable Bricks Are Heavy single from 1992, is said to chronicle the act's "triumphs and failures." Using over 100 hours of vintage footage and new interviews, the film will trace the act's beginnings in the mid-'80s, to their rise during the '90s alternative rock boom, to their breakup in 2001.
Throughout, it will inspect L7's "political bite and humour," as well as the rigours of being a working band.
In addition to interviews with the members of L7, the film features insight from X's Exene Cervenka, Garbage's Shirley Manson, Veruca Salt's Louise Post, Joan Jett, Brody Dalle, Bratmobile's Allison Wolfe, members of 7 Year Bitch, Nirvana's Krist Novoselic and more.
