After 17 years of music-making, Frog Eyes have announced plans to call it quits after releasing one final studio album.
Titled Violet Psalms, the Victoria outfit's final LP will arrive May 18 through Paper Bag Records. It follows their 2015 LP Pickpocket's Locket. The 10-track album is said to be "a giddy lament; a gnashing jubilee; a rain-drenched allocution on hope vs. horror, paradise vs. pride, Marx and Brexit and bad acid trips."
Violet Psalms was recorded at the home of frontman Carey Mercer and drummer Melanie Campbell, with all four members wanting to capture the energy of a debut release. The four-piece were in search of the freedom that, as Mercer puts it, one feels "when there's no expectation that anyone will actually listen."
Frog Eyes have also mapped out a farewell tour, which will keep them on the road in Canada and the United States throughout May to July. You can find a complete itinerary below, in addition to a taste of what's to come from Violet Psalms with "Idea Man," which arrived through Pitchfork today.
