Fleetwood Mac's 1977 hit song "Dreams" is making its way back into the charts after a serious viral moment over the weekend had everyone longing for the track's chill vibes — proving that the band's music is still the ultimate pacifier during quarantine times.
This time, the rise in popularity is attributed to a relatively smalltime Idaho Falls-based TikTok'er named Nathan Apodaca, who went viral on the platform for a video where he's seen chugging a litre of Ocean Spray Cran-Raspberry while skating around town on his longboard and lip-syncing to "Dreams."
Captioned "Morning vibe," the seconds-long clip currently sits at 3.4 million views on TikTok after being posted only five days ago. Similarly, Apodaca's Instagram cross-post has an additional 3.1 million views — and climbing. Having made use of arguably youthful platforms, 15 percent of the song's streams over the weekend were from first-time listeners, bumping the track up to the 29th spot on Rolling Stone's Top 100.
According to RS, Apple Music reported 221 percent increase in streams of the song, while Spotify reported an increase of 127 percent and Shazam clocked in with a whopping 1,137 percent increase. Meanwhile, sales of the track have nearly tripled since the weekend.
The viral clip even caught the eyes of the band earlier this week. They shared the video alongside a message of approval: "We love this!"
According to TMZ, all the attention came at the perfect time for Apodaca, who has been given the chance to ask for financial help while he's been living in an RV with no running water. He's been taking thousands of dollars in donations through his Cash App, Paypal and Venmo, and plans to fix his car and help his mom with the surplus. Win-win!
