Prince Edward Island now has a star-studded music festival to call its own. Cavendish, PE's Sommo Festival launched last year, and for the event's second year, organizers have attracted some massive names to come to Canada's East Coast.
Sommo takes place September 13 and 14 right next to the famed Anne of Green Gables house. With tickets on sale now, here are the five must-see acts Exclaim! recommends checking out during the festival.
The Beaches
There's only one Canadian band hot enough to unseat Arkells at the JUNOS: Toronto rock powerhouse the Beaches, who finally toppled Arkells this year and won Group of the Year. Come catch their massive hit "Blame Brett" in the flesh.
Half Moon Run
The Montreal folk rockers clearly know a thing or two about music festivals, since they're throwing one of their own this year (L'Appel Montreal). Don't miss this chance to see these festival vets in their element.
Danko Jones
Toronto garage lifer Danko Jones can always be relied upon for heavy riffs, howled hooks and aggressive rock energy. He's been bashing out heavy tunes for more than 20 years, so expect his Sommo appearance to be reliably loud.
Noah Kahan
You can't go to Sommo and not check out one of the hottest artists in the world, everybody's favourite throwback-to-2012-stomp-clap singer-songwriter Noah Kahan. Bring a flannel shirt and you'll fit right in.
TALK
Less than three years since TALK released his debut single, the Ottawa singer-songwriter won Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the 2024 JUNO Awards. His sweetly sentimental tune "Run Away to Mars" has, appropriately enough, shot him into the stratosphere.
