DJ Shadow has detailed a new album. The celebrated producer will deliver eighth studio LP Action Adventure on October 27 via Mass Appeal Records / Liquid Amber.
Following 2019's Our Pathetic Age, the 14-track Action Adventure finds Shadow working in almost entirely instrumental fashion, a mode he says pushed him into deeper compositional consideration. He explains in a release, "I didn't want to write music that was formatted for vocalists. I wanted to write music that flexed different energies."
That energy is first felt with "Ozone Scraper," the Action Adventure opener, which arrives today alongside a video directed by Stefano Ottaviano you can watch below.
"As a song, 'Ozone Scraper' is intended to articulate a feeling of speed," Shadow shared on Twitter of his latest. "But for the video, I thought it would be fun to tell the story of a humble villager with a very SLOW bike... that is, until his imagination takes over."
DJ Shadow's landmark debut album Endtroducing..... celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2021. That same year, he contributed to King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard's Butterfly 3001 remix album.
