It was a homecoming to remember for Disturbed on their current North American tour, as the group were presented the key to city of their Illinois hometown.
Before taking the stage at Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, IL, yesterday evening (August 30), the four-piece were Immortalized as local legends in being awarded respective golden keys to mark the civic honour, and a plaque commemorating their ties to the Chicago neighbourhood.
"What an amazing honour receiving the key to the city in our hometown!" the band wrote in sharing a few shots of the moment, in front of their VIP meet-and-greet banner. "Thank you to the Mayor of Tinley Park, [Colleen Sullivan] and to all of the trustees and board members for this sentimental moment."
Sullivan shared how it was "an honour" in a post of her own, writing, "What an amazing night recognizing Disturbed in front of their hometown crowd of Tinley Park!"
Disturbed formed in Chicago in 1994, and the Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre is closely tied to their visual legacy. The performance footage in the video for all-time nu metal crusher "Down with the Sickness" — now a stage entrance favourite of Phoebe Bridgers — was captured during a 2001 performance at the venue, then named the Tweeter Center.
The final two dates of Disturbed's 2023 North American tour go down this weekend. The band delivered eighth studio album Divisive last year.
