Americans are celebrating Thanksgiving today, which means it's time for the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. As always, it's slated to be packed with stars — both performing live and in giant balloon form.

Diana Ross is the top-billed performer at the parade, and she will be headlining her very own float. Famous family members like her daughter Tracee Ellis Ross and son Evan Ross are expected to join her on the float, as she sings a new track from her Christmas album.

There are also performances scheduled from Donna Summer, John Legend, Martina McBride, the Muppets from Sesame Street, Bad Bunny, Kane Brown and Ella Mai, Pentatonix, Rita Ora, Sugarland, Anika Noni Rose, Barenaked Ladies, Leona Lewis, Fifth Harmony's Ally Brooke, Bazzi, Ashley Tisdale and Carly Pearce.

Of course, there will also be plenty of marching bands, to boot, and a grand finale appearance from Santa Claus himself.

The fur- and feather-covered Muppets will likely be the warmest ones out there, as weather predictions are calling for the coldest parade date ever, according to the Associated Press. It could take over from 1871 when the daily high was just -5.5 degrees Celsius, though the parade only began in 1924.

In addition to issuing a cold weather alert, the city of New York will also be monitoring wind conditions to ensure the safety of the famous inflatable parade balloons. If sustained winds reach above 37 kilometres per hour or gusts reach 54.7 kph, the balloons will be moved closer to the ground or removed from the floats entirely.

Sounds like we won't be getting any rogue M&Ms this year.

Check out some of the performances below, as they become available.
