Quebec's Dead Obies have had a wild year, receiving much acclaim for their Gesamtkunstwerk, but also losing out on a big grant over its disproportionate balance of French and English lyrics. Regardless, the rap unit will be bringing their bilingual approach to the masses this fall on tour.
The outfit's show schedule already included a handful of summer festival appearances around Quebec, including appearances at Montreal's Osheaga event, Drummondville's Festival de la Poutine and Béthanie's Festival La Grosse Lanterne. However, the group will now start up their own "XXXPLOSIF Tour" by September.
They'll first play a series of headlining shows around Quebec, ahead of a tour in France. They'll make their way back to their home province by the end of October and play a series of gigs around Quebec until December.
You'll find all of the details behind Dead Obies' live schedule down below, where you'll also discover a new music video for Gesamtkunstwerk number "Waiting."
Dead Obies just recently won the Festival d'été de Québec's 2016 Espoir FEQ Award. The win comes a few months after it had been revealed that the group had to return an $18,000 grant to the Musicaction foundation, as Gesamtkunstwerk did not contain the 70 percent worth of francophone lyrics needed to qualify.
The split on the record was closer to 55 percent French and 45 percent English.
