Following Coldplay upping the ante on sustainable shows, Billie Eilish is the latest artist to commit to reducing her upcoming tour's carbon footprint.
The star has shared some ways in which her HIT ME HARD AND SOFT tour will become more sustainable, including allowing fans to bring in reusable water bottles, making plant-based food options more visible, discouraging driving to shows and more.
A press release for the initiative claims that 70 percent of a show's carbon footprint comes from the attendees, so Eilish's team have put forward some motions for concertgoers to lessen their emissions. One of said plans is to make plant-based options available near shows on a map, and by offering plant-based options at the venues.
All of the merch available at stands will be made with recycled materials. Posters will be made with 100 percent recycled paper, clothing with a variety of 100 percent recycled cotton, organic cotton or recycled polyester and vinyl will be made from recycled or recyclable papers and plastics.
There will also be an Eco-Action Village at every tour date. There, fans can register to vote, participate in a fast fashion study and learn more about how to get involved in their communities.
This plan seems to put more of the onus on fans, as there are no details as to whether Eilish will reduce her flights taken or use electric vehicles. Coldplay's plan — while heavily reliant on audience participation — had them commit to alternative transportation and hire a team to plant a tree for every ticket sold.
The massive HIT ME HARD AND SOFT tour begins Sunday (September 29) in Quebec City, before a doubleheader in Toronto on October 1 and 2.
