Bartees Strange Shares New Song "Hold the Line"

Written in the wake of George Floyd's murder

Bartees Strange has shared another single from his forthcoming sophomore record Farm to Table — "Hold the Line" follows previously-shared singles "Heavy Heart" and "Cosigns," and it's a bluesy, sonorous ballad that was written in the wake of George Floyd's murder.

In a statement about the song, Strange wrote:

I remember watching George Floyd's daughter talk about the death of her father and thinking wow — what a sad introduction to Black American life for this young person. It was painful to watch her grow up in that moment, like all Black kids eventually do.

"Hold the Line" was written over the course of three days during that first pandemic summer. Through this song I was trying to make sense of what was happening in the US, my neighbourhood, and my community at that moment. During the marches people were trying to stop the bleeding, locked arm in arm, doing everything they could to hold the line.

The song comes attached to a lyric video from Sabrina Nichols, and you can check it out below. Farm to Table is the follow-up to 2020's Live Forever, and it arrives June 17 on 4AD
