Andrew Bird

"Roma Fade"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Mar 11, 2016

Andrew Bird's latest LP is set to take flight next month, but before Are You Serious soars onto shelves, the singer-songwriter has shared another preview of the album with "Roma Fade."

The new track follows previously shared cuts "Capsized" and the Fiona Apple-featuring "Left Handed Kisses," and according to a press release, is "about the wordless dialogue between the watcher and the watched and the fine line between romance and creepiness."

It depicts a woman being gazed upon by a man and as the song continues, the pair's perspectives change. "In this song, 'she' is a fortress of solitude, yet the observer can still affect her with his gaze," explained Bird. "Whether the attention is welcome or not, something between them has changed. Notice how the song shifts from third person to first person near the end and it's actually the observer who has transformed."

Hear that visual encounter put into musical form by giving "Roma Fade" a listen. It's a jaunty, orchestral folk number, and you can hear it for yourself in the player below.

Are You Serious is out on April 1 through Loma Vista, and Bird's upcoming North American tour dates can be found over here.
