Nova Scotian singer-songwriter Adam Baldwin has announced the upcoming release of his sophomore album, Concertos & Serenades via Sonic Records on September 23.
A follow-up to his debut 2016 rock-infused effort No Telling When (Precisely Nineteen Eighty-Five), Concertos & Serenades will see Baldwin bear witness to a tradition of desperation that haunts the coastlines and backroads of his hometown.
"Concertos & Serenades does nothing less than tell the other side of the story about a wind-battered people, who grow up with a callus over our whole body," Baldwin said in a statement.
The musician, who also currently performs alongside fellow East Coast rocker Matt Mays, attributes the creation of the record to an encounter with Martha Wainwright, who, after hosting a French-Canadian TV show that he was also playing, convinced him to continue making music over a meal.
"I was like, 'I don't think I got this in me anymore. I can't write anything. I feel like I can't get anything out of the place that I live, and I can't move because my family's here. So I think it's time for me to tap out." Baldwin said. "And she scolded me in that restaurant, like a dog."
Ahead of the release, Baldwin has shared a guitar-plucked ballad about the consequences of getting even, "Causeway Road."
He explained of the track: "Neil Young sang, 'The devil fools with the best-laid plans,' and in this case, a fellow's well-meaning ambition costs him a brother, a boat, and ultimately his livelihood. From betrayal to revenge, this story affirms another adage: 'An eye for an eye makes the world go blind.'"
