Stephen King's bestselling novel The Outsider was released as a 10-episode HBO series earlier this year, and now it's being slated for a follow-up.

While HBO has not yet confirmed the news, King himself told EW that a follow-up series was in the works.

"There's going to be a second season of The Outsider as soon as they can get the production going," King said.

As for the source material, he said that Season 2 will not utilize his follow-up short story If It Bleeds. "It's really complicated because of the difference in the two story lines makes it difficult to figure out how that could possibly be done in the world of [showrunner] Richard Price's creation of The Outsider."

That said, a plan is in place for the show.

"I know exactly where it's going because I have seen some of the scripts," King said. "I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. I'll just say that it's really great and a real spooky paranormal element."

Season 1 of The Outsider starred Jason Bateman, Ben Mendelsohn, Cynthia Erivo, Bill Camp, Mare Winningham, Paddy Considine, Julianne Nicholson, Yul Vázquez, Jeremy Bobb and Marc Menchaca.
