Good morning, Twaination! After lending her vocal talents to narrate a documentary on Indigenous children in the Canadian foster care system last year, Shania Twain officially has a documentary of her own headed to Netflix.
To continue building the anticipation for the legend's headlining Boots and Hearts performance next month, Not Just a Girl arrives on the streaming platform on July 26 — the same day as companion album Not Just a Girl (The Highlights) will be available digitally, with a physical release to follow on September 2. Opener "Not Just a Girl" is a previously unheard bonus track, which you can hear a taste of in the film's trailer.
From her humble beginnings in Timmins, ON, Twain's meteoric rise to domination of both the country and pop charts as a groundbreaking crossover artist is finally getting its dues in documentary form. Produced by Mercury Studios, it contains exclusive new interview footage of the superstar speaking candidly about both her triumphs and trials, as well as an inside look at the recording process of her forthcoming sixth album.
The career-spanning doc also features appearances from the likes of Avril Lavigne, Lionel Richie, Diplo, Kelsea Ballerini and fellow fringe aficionado Orville Peck, who says Twain "reached through the stereo and made me feel safe when I was a young kid."
