Actor Rick Moranis was punched in the head in an unprovoked attack on New York's Upper West Side this week.

The New York Post reports that Moranis was walking south on Central Park West near West 70th Street around 7:30 a.m. local time yesterday (October 1) when a stranger suddenly threw a punch, hitting the actor in the head and knocking him to the ground.

Security camera footage, seen below, shows the assailant striking Moranis before leaving on foot. The Post reports that actor went to a local hospital to evaluate pain in his head, back and right hip ahead of reporting the attack to police.

Moranis recently returned to the screen in a cellphone commercial with Ryan Reynolds. He's also due to appear in a new Honey, I Shrunk the Kids film, which would mark his first theatrical appearance since taking a hiatus from on-screen roles in 1997.

We wish the Canadian a speedy recovery.
