Neve Campbell Responds to Shoutout from the Weeknd: "Which Weekend, Last Weekend?"

The artist name-drops the 'Scream' actor on his 'Dawn FM' track "Here We Go... Again"

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Neve Campbell — and the Weeknd is no exception, but the Scream star hasn't exactly reciprocated his affection; instead, she's asked, "Which weekend, last weekend?"

"My new girl, she a movie star / I loved her right, make her scream like Neve Campbell," the artist croons on Tyler, the Creator-assisted Dawn FM track "Here We Go... Again."

Though the album has been incredibly pervasive, charting high since it came out at the beginning of the month, this name-dropping moment was only brought to Campbell's attention secondhand.

Appearing on James Corden's The Late Late Show earlier this week (July 19) alongside Adam Devine, she discussed hearing about the Weeknd's shoutout from her publicist.

"She was like 'the Weeknd,' and I was like, 'Which weekend, last weekend?'" Campbell joked. "I had no idea what she was talking about. Then I realized, oh – the guy who played at the Super Bowl! That guy!" she explained, referring to the musician's 2021 halftime show performance.

Campbell went on to point out that Tesfaye is a fellow Canadian, impressively managing to spark Heritage Minute fodder on American late-night television.

"I can only think he'll be really disappointed if he knows you described him as 'the guy from the Super Bowl,' given that he's arguably one of the biggest and best-selling artists of his generation," the host — and evident Weeknd stan — told the actor. (Exclaim! readers would tend to agree, given how you ranked Toronto's very own Starboy in the 2021 Readers Poll.)

"I'm just so bad with pop culture," Campbell admitted, laughing sheepishly.

For what it's worth, the Weeknd might occasionally dream of having that level of distance from his public persona, based on the self-inflicted brutality of the artist's latest video for "Gasoline." And his whole schtick, really.

Watch Campbell's appearance on The Late Late Show below, where you can also listen to "Here We Go... Again" (though she probably still won't).
